Speaking as a Christian, Jerry Falwell - to me - is an embarassment; a man that is just too full of himself and who has access to mass media resources.
He has some very bizarre ideas and I think that in many ways he has lost contact with reality; secular OR spiritual.
Don't be confused by "how many people 'support' him." It's not that difficult for ANY charismatic figure - especially one with media access - to attract "followers."
I'm pretty sure David Koresh, Jim Jones and Marshall Applewhite all attracted followers without the benefit of television.
I'm not saying that Falwell isn't a "Christian;" just not the kind I - or a lot of people - would associate with or follow.

Please know that Jerry Falwell does not represent all christians. There are plenty of nuts out there in either christian or other beliefs. Its always the nuts that stand out to non believers, and help to shape thier decisions to not follow or believe in God.
As for why many people believe in him, so many want to belong to something, especially frustrated and angry people.
I personally believe that anything that promotes hate is not of God. Its not what Jesus taught.

Although not an eveangelico, do sincerely feel that many of
the teachings are right on target, however human beings have their own interpretaions, and although respecting Jerry Falwell in many of his opinions, also have a mind of my own and do not by any means support a fair share of his stands

For the most part I would say go Jerry, I love you!!!! Thank God for you, your church, school,God parent home,Univeristy and all the many other ministries you have started.
Jerry Falwell has been more involved in actually HELPING more people, than anyone other person walking the earth today!.
This is a man who has appeared on countless tv talk shows for interviews. He has authored books. He has preached countless sermons as Pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church.
It is weak and shameful to take a few quotes ( l would like to know where you got these so called quotes) and use these few words to attack a great man who has given his life to serving God.
What have you done lately?????????????

Tsk tsk- his actions and verbal refuse betray his hypocrisy.
I am sorry, but no true Christian would ever say things like that. To be a Christian is to be "Christ- like". Last time I checked, Jesus told us to love our neighbor as ourself.
Maybe someone should inform Mr. Falwell that there are many heterosexuals who, unfortunately, contract AIDS/HIV- to say that it is a "homosexual plague" is just stupid, IMHO.
I don't know why people support him and his hypocritical views, but I am very glad to NOT be one of them!

Notice who the quote is from - ONE person. Nowhere doesit say it speaks for all Christians.
I also bet you were very selective in picking out his "good" quotes.
As far as "law," God's laws are supreme. If man's laws go against His laws, I won't abide by them.

I think Jerry should go away.
I don't like him and he has caused Christianity to look bad.
He is supported by people for who knows what reason.
Perhaps he should have fallen down the well.

the first quote means its our purpose in life to find God, and sense Christ is the way, if u r not a Christian, U fail in life.
don't know what a secularist is. if that means taking Jesus our of our school, oh come on look at today.
I don't agree with this one, I believe God gave AIDS to the world so people would trust in marriage, and not before marriage, ( u know virgin love)
people don't like Gods ways, put it in politics (voting) with religion, witch is the majority wins or u have allot of fighting , U will find more against God than with God. Its a big hassle
....we need God to teach people to fear him. Jesus is too much love.

He is outragous and should not be allowed to speak where people can hear him. He does not deserve a public opinion
