I understand that squash can be long like a zucchini- nevermind- just a basic understanding of zuccini and it's possible colors (and perhaps that of related foods like squash) would be helpful.

Zucchini is a small summer marrow or squash, also commonly called Italian squash. They are actually a type of squash. It can either be yellow or green or light green, and generally has a similar shape to a ridged cucumber, though a few cultivars are available that produce round or bottle-shaped fruit.

The only yellow zucchini I've seen is sometimes where the squash sits on the ground (when it's ripening) or if it's not fully ripe, it'll have a yellow spot, but I've never seen one that's solid yellow. The only truly yellow squash I've seen is yellow crook neck.

Yep. Zucchini can be yellow.

It could be all in my head, but I think green ones taste better because they are a bit firmer. Yellow ones seem to be a bit mushier.
