Everyone says smack her but i don't agree. How can you tell a child not to smack by smacking her. Children learn by example. I'm not against smacking but I have a 20 month old son who bites, hits and scratches when he doesn't get his own way. Smacking has not helped at all. My son is developing slower than his peers in speech and walking etc so we take him to speech therapy and physiotherapy to help him catch up. It's actually a frustration thing, he can't tell me what he wants and he isn't able to get to things as quick as his brother so it's his way of defending himself. You need to teach her healthy ways to vent her frustration and anger and talk about why she can't have it. Don't just say no. I've started time-out and each time he lashes out he goes to his cot where there is nothing fun to play with. Also a good sleep routine helps because the more tired he is the more he does it. I find I put him in there a hundred times a day but he seems to be getting better. As he's getting better with his therapies he's not as bad as he used to be. It's just a stage but makes sure she grows out of it by making the bad unpleasant and the good pleasant otherwise it will become bad habit. Good luck. Never give in1 ;o)

The best way is to smack her back and show her just how it feels and ask her is she likes it. and make her sit down or have a privete spot she can go to that she won't get hurt at until she is done haveing her fit about not being able to get what she wants and stick to your guns about her not getting it.
its been a long time since one of my kids did that but she is 8 years old now and she did the very same thing as well as try to chocking me and all. and finally after me take things from her and doing what ever she did to me back to her to where she would know how it felt she stoped it only took me like 2 week to a month for her to finally realize that doing all that hits biting, chocking and all that stuff wasn't going to get her what she wanted any faster.

The others are completely right - give a swift swat to her behind every time she whops you. If you don't take care of this, she will get MUCH worse, so good for you for making the effort to stop this behavior while she is tiny.

she is at the point in wanting to exert her individuality. she is going into the terrible twos's. you HAVE to be firm with her when saying NO, when she begins to punch then smack her hands & VERY FIRMLY say that action is not acceptable.
