I think I might have ppd. When i'm around alot of people for example in a restaurant, store...etc. I get really anxious/nervous. Thinking that everyone at that particular place is looking at me, making fun of me, or trying to humiliate me. I focus alot on what they are talking about and think everything they say is about me!

Am I normal or paranoid?

Believe me.....no one is looking at you, making fun of you or trying to humiliate you. That's completely ridiculous. People are WAY too self-absorbed in their own lives to be so interested in YOU. Impossible.

Sounds to me as though you have smoked WAY too much pot in your life. Paranoia is the MAIN side effect of long term marijuana use. That and killing off a lot of brain cells.

Get a grip on yourself.

What is really good about your situation is that you realize you may have a problem. Others try to pretend their situation is normal which precludes them from seeking help.

From what you describe, it appears that medication is in order. Medication can be prescribed by a psychiatrist or a medical doctor. A psychiatrist is better able to diagnose your illness. Another alternative is to see a therapist who works with a physician. The therapist will treat the illness and the doctor will prescribe the medication. A psychiatrist takes on both jobs.

There are many disorders with paranoia as a feature and the therapist or psychiatrist would have to evaluate you in order to make a decision as to whether you have one.

So many people have mental health issues these days that you are probably right there in the mix.

What you're saying doesn't fit the full criteria for Paranoid Personality DIsorder; it sounds more like somebody who just smoked pot. You'd have to be suspicious of people you actually know.

These criteria were copied from WIkipedia; it's basically the same thing that's in the DSM-IV:
A. A pervasive distrust and suspiciousness of others such that their motives are interpreted as malevolent, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by four (or more) of the following:
1. suspects, without sufficient basis, that others are exploiting, harming, or deceiving him or her
2. is preoccupied with unjustified doubts about the loyalty or trustworthiness of friends or associates
3. is reluctant to confide in others because of unwarranted fear that the information will be used maliciously against him or her
4. reads hidden demeaning or threatening meanings into benign remarks or events
5. persistently bears grudges, i.e., is unforgiving of insults, injuries, or slights
6. perceives attacks on his or her character or reputation that are not apparent to others and is quick to react angrily or to counterattack
7. has recurrent suspicions, without justification, regarding fidelity of spouse or sexual partner.
B. Does not occur exclusively during the course of schizophrenia, a mood disorder with psychotic features, or another psychotic disorder and is not due to the direct physiological effects of a general medical condition.

You need to see a doctor, but remember, just because you are paranoid does not mean someone is not out to get you.
