The details and the colors are very well done. I love paintings by these great masters, with such great definitions. the use of light makes the dress especially look so real. I'm glad you put this up here, i am going to a website to see what else he painted. it is wonderful. it is a portrait of Madame De Pompadour, painted between 1721-64. if you want to see more of boucher, go to postershop.com and input boucher in the go box at top right.

In my opinion, the colors are pleasing. The woman has a pleasing face. The disarray at the bottom right of the picture distract me and although the roses are lovely the mess throws off the whole picture for me. That and the fact that she is looking away. I wonder what she is looking at, for, maybe who. It's an overall pleasing picture but not one I'd hang in my home. The lady appears young, fairly pretty with nice eyes. I wonder about her hand on the piano. She seems terribly thin, most likely corsetted. The dress is lovely. It is a relatively neutral color with ribbons and puffed sleeves. I always liked the fashion of pressing the bosom tightly to enhance the cleavage. I do not like the sides of the dress but that is the style for the time. It looks to be expensively made. I would wear one similar but only if certain changes were made, mostly as as to not accentuate the hips. Other than that, I would wear it if it were toned down some a la mode.

I love how the dress falls onto the chair and the dress itself, but her face seems too childlike. Her arms seem awkward. I wish the flowers showed a little more color and were to bring a brighter romantic spring like feel to it. But the piece itself seems so romantic, remiscent and whistful yet regal.
