Go on Yahoo or Google and look up Catbirds. I heard one out back of our Condo. I haven't heard it since. They come in black and grey. You can also get
the sound. The ones I just listened to certainly don't sound like the one that was
out back. But don't give up. Good luck. You should have fun learning about them.

Catbirds are a group of birds classified as mimic thrushes. There are several different kinds. In the United States we have Gray Catbirds. They can make a noise similar to a cat's meow. They have other calls, too.

I'm not sure what the rest of the sentence means, but a catbird is just a bird/song bird. Asfar as the meowing it probably just means that it's impossible for a cat bird to meow, just as it is impossible to 'convince your mother that she's neglected you' something like that maybe.....

cat bird is a type of song bird. you can look it up on yahoo images to see some pics if you like. By the way, that book is great....I enjoyed reading that in grade school---that and summer of the falcon.
