Bipolar, ADD, ADHD and other terms were invented (yes, invented) and voted as legitimate terminology by the American Psychiatric Association in the 1900s. They did not in fact research this, but rather, they wanted more codes to bill insurance companies with, since insurance companies try to make a profit by not paying medical fees, and these terms give them more "credibility". Their labeling you as "bipolar" is really unscientific and let me just say I'm sorry they ever do so. After all, did they do a chemical test on you to diagnose you with a "chemical imbalance". No, they didn't. They tell everyone that they have a chemical imbalance so they get insurance money. It's all about the money.

You should never just stop taking prescribed medication suddenly, because it can really be a shock to your system. If the medication, makes you feel bad, there's a simple solution. Go back or call your therapist, and tell him, that the medication you are taking, makes you feel bad, and that you have stopped taking it, and he will change the medication, to something else, that will still be effective, for the problem you are treating, but not make you feel so bad. They have so many different medications now, that treat the same problem, so that you can still take the medication, without the unwanted side effects.

It's never a good idea to abruptly stop a med. You should check with your doc about changing them. Tell him how they make you feel and that you want to change. If you stop on your own it could have serious conseequences.
You could check out natural and homeopathic remedies too. Do an internet search for alternate treatments for bipolar. Best to see a qualified Naturopath or Homeopath, tho.
Diet and lifestyle can have an effect too. You should try to learn as much as you can about your condition and the drugs you are taking. Check out drugs.com and lifeextension.com. You might find useful info. Good luck.

Some medications need to be weaned out of your system because you can get serious seizures and helath problems by stopping all at once. This is something that you shouldn't be doing without medical supervision. If you feel better, then you need to discuss stopping therapy and meds with your therapist and doctor.

You need to contact your doctor. Don't just go off your medication. Some medications used for bipolar can be VERY dangerous if you just stop them. Tell your doctor your symptoms. There are so many medications, the doctor should be able to prescribe something else.
Good Luck.

It's alright to quit if you're not interested in getting better. They know a thing or two so if they think you need to be on meds, then it's probably a pretty good idea to stay on them. If they are making you feel bad, then you should discuss that with them because they can change the dosage or switch you to something else. You're not going to get better most likely on your own.

Oh my goodness!! Please go to your therapist right away. I'm 30weeks pregnant and I quit taking my anti-depressant the day I found out I was pregnant. I had to deal with major consequences. It took some time but I eventually relapsed into major depression. I still don't take my anti- depressants but I had to go to a therapist for help until I have my child and start taking my anti depressants again and when I do choose that it's the time for me to get off of them I will speak with my doctor and they'll safely ween me off and monitor my behavior to make sure I don't relapse. Please get some kind of help.

Are you sure you can handel being without them? You need to be 100% sure that you aren't gonna relapse into a bout of depression, anxiety, or whatever illness you suffered. You should try and call your therapist and see what he thinks of this.

Good luck!
