First rinse it with running water. Then apply direct pressure (squeeze your thumb hard) until the bleeding stops. If it still doesn't stop elevate it above your head if sitting / standing and above your heart if laying flat. Apply ice and do all of the above next. If it still doesn't stop bleeding start making your way to an ER. Go ahead and apply pressure at the pressure point located on the inside of your upper arm between your biceps and triceps still holding direct pressure and elevated.
Don't apply alcohol to it, alcohol will keep it from coagulating, wait until it stops bleeding to treat it with anything. If nothing big got in it I would just apply some bacitracin / neosporin. If you were cutting something dirty I would rinse 1 time with peroxide and then apply bacitracin / neosporin. Do not use peroxide more than once because it will kill good cells as well as bad, slowing down healing times.

Close your eyes and pray!!!!! Actually, it just takes a LOT of practice. First you have to learn how to hold your hands. If you have the knife in your right hand, the left one will be holding the food. You curl your fingers under so then when you are slicing, the knife slides down against your knuckles (your fingers are safely tucked away). Once you get the motion of holding your fingers back and letting the flat part do the guiding, you're pretty much there. Once you trust your fingers, you don't even really have to look (this takes time). Over time, you'll just get faster and faster.

Gauze, and apply pressure until the bleeding stops. After that, wash it thoroughly, apply an antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin, and bandage it with more gauze and some adhesive tape. Change it at LEAST once a day; more often if it gets dirty. If you see signs of infection, such as swelling, or red streaks, contact your doctor.

Get a rag or a paper towel and apply pressure. ALOT of pressure. I did the same thing with glass once and it took and hour for the bleeding to stop, but you just have to keep the pressure constant. Once a paper towel or rag gets too bloody, get another and keep going until it slows down enough to put a band-aid on it.

Apply direct pressure with a clean gauze, and hold your thumb above the level of your heart. If you feel faint, sit or lie down.
