20 mg of citalopram is a dose that's effective for many people, though it's not uncommon for someone to need 30 or 40 mg, or even more. There's no way to talk about strength of ssri drugs like this one. Doctors think more in terms of common therapeutic doses; and then they adjust according to the individual. It's good not to go too high at first... let your body become accustomed to it, and then increase it if necessary. Some doctors who are very conservative will have a patient take 5 mg for a few days, then 10, then 15, etc. They do this so the side effects will be minimized.

If you're feeling bad on 20 mg, call your doc and ask if it's okay to split the dose for a while.

Trade name is called Celexa.
It usually comes in 10, 20, and 40. Typically, you do not want to exceed 60mg without a specialist.
20mg is on the mid-lower range of strength.

If your asking if it is stronger compared to other anti-depressants, hard to say. Everyone responds to different medications differently.
