Occasionally, crab is just fine for cats. However, a good cat food is best for daily fare since it contains vitamins and minerals. My first cat and I would "fight" over seafood--he loved it as much as I do and I'd share but he'd be eating away and he'd always want more before I got any because I had to do all the deshelling. My cat, a neutered male, never had any urinary problems--but he was provided with lots of fresh water all the time and our crab fests weren't held that often.

While cats LIKE seafood, it IS bad for them. It can lead to urinary tract blockages and stones. We have a cat who developed a blockage and had to be hospitalized... our vet said to avoid any cat foods with seafood in them, as they change the acidity of the urine and can lead to stones (especially in neutered males - because they have smaller urethras and altered cats aren't as physically active - but it also happens in unaltered cats of both genders). She said to avoid canned tuna at all costs! Chicken, liver, and beef products are encouraged, though. So if you want to treat kitty, please try one of these instead of seafood. Your kitty and mine will thank you! ;)
