I was getting her fixed but my vet said to wait till she was treated for heartworm for all who bash for not having her fixed. She got mutilple infections in her breasts cause of her nipples being inverted. I didnt plan for her to ever have pups. Vet wanted treatment to start after her heat. So please people dont tell me to fix my dog, and she should have, I was planning on it, and Vet said to wait.

Yes the heart worms can be passed to the pups through mom. Please take them to the vet and have them tested and if the pups are old enough to be weened then mom should be treated as well.
The soomer the treatment can get started the better for all.

The mosquito is an essential part of the heartworm’s life cycle, and the parasite cannot be transmitted any other way. This means that even if a mother dog has the disease she can’t give it to directly her puppies. The only way the pups can get the parasite is if an infected mosquito containing mature larvae bites them.

First off she could not safely have been spayed while being heartworm positive..secondly she could not be spayed safely until after heartworm treatment was finished thirdly to answer the posters question NO the pups can't get heartworm from the mother.

I do want to say though the dog should have been supervised a lot more carefully during her heat to prevent her from getting pregnant. There is NO reason for accidental pregnancies.

maximum vets require a dogs to be spayed/neutered earlier they'll initiate heartworm scientific care. scientific care is complicated on the dogs, consequently they might desire to be saved especially nonetheless and quiet for a month for the time of and after treatments. purely have her spayed, that way you do no longer would desire to rigidity concerning the extra desirable rigidity on her coronary heart from possible being pregnant - her coronary heart is having a complicated sufficient time with the heartworms.

I know other worms are passed through
birth to puppies. Heartworms I don't know.
But I would call the vet and ask them.
