A professional photographer that is a "friend" of my fiance agreed to photograph our wedding. He does great work and we got a good deal on the price. Well, 3 weeks before the wedding, he had the chance to take a good job overseas so we got screwed. We realize he can't be too good of a friend to do this to us. Anyway, I'm not going to trip about it(enough stress already) and we decided that since so many relatives and friends have nice digital cameras, we have asked them to take as many photos as possible. Then, once we are back from our honeymoon, we will go have portraits taken. My question is, what are some of the shots we need to ask our friends to take of us? If anyone has a list, I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.

The most important picture to me would be the kiss, but that's just me. Here is a link to a wedding photo checklist:

If you want a good source of cheap photography, see if there's a photography course at your local college, and ask the chair of the department to put you in touch with a good, talented responsible photographer.

Win-win situation. You can still pay them a low rate, they won't expect much as they aren't professional. You've already got your family covering part of the duty, so you're sure to get a whole lot of shots! And the student gets a few photos to add to his portofolio for when s/he goes professional.

Or, alternatively, use the money for the photographer to buy a bunch of the disposable digital cameras. Leave them in the center of each table with a note asking guests to participate in the fun and memory-building by using the cameras to take candid shots of the reception. Have your maid of honor collect them at the end, and develop them!

normally when wedding pictures are taken there are a few that are nessicary
Bride and Groom at Alter,
Bride coming down Ailse
Bride and Father
Bride and Groom kissing at end of Ceremony
Bride and Groom walking back down Ailse
Bride alone before wedding
Groom alone before wedding
Bride getting ready for wedding
Bride getting on dress
Bride putting on Garter
Groom standing at Alter waiting for bride
The wedding party
The wedding party with Bride and Groom
Bride and Groom w/Brides parents
Bride and Groom w/ Grooms parents

After that most pictures are a formality. You can have them done or wait until you get back from the honeymoon, and remind your maid of honor or whom ever is handling your dress to make sure it don't get to the cleaners before you get back.

Honey, you are going to be VERY disappointed with your pictures if you go this route. Professional photographers know more about proper lighting and posing, as well as what the necessary shots are, then any of your guests will. They WILL miss key moments (even if you give them a sheet), and they WILL compose the pictures badly.

Besides, are they being invited to the wedding to celebrate with you, or to work for you? Don't make your guests work; you're supposed to be their host, not their employer.

Get yourself a professional, not a friend. Always such a bad idea to have business dealings with friends. A pro will do the job, barring tragedy. A friend will flake out on you because he's not getting paid well.

GET A PRO, or you'll be screwed.

wow i can't believe that guy did that.

some good shots:

-each participant in the wedding party coming down the aisle

-you walking down the aisle

-ceremony shots - the kiss, the vows, ring exchange

-you guys leaving the church

-getting in and out of limo

-some shots of the whole wedding party

-reception shots - first dance, tossing bouquet, cutting cake

just tell them to take a lot of pictures the whole ceremony :)

A few musts are when you're putting on his wedding band and vise-virsa. Another shot is of the "you may kiss the bride" kiss. Cutting the wedding cake, and feeding it to each other.

You can pass out disposable cameras to your guests and I would make the photographer return any money put down for services incompleted
