Nope! But it could be a good idea, in case you have a very common condition that your doctor can diagnose, and it takes so long to get an appointment with a dermatologist.

Some insurance companies make you see a regular doctor first. If it isn't an insurance problem, you can see a dermatologist first.

Most regular doctors know about basic skin problems. Call and describe to the regular doctor's nurse what is going on, and see if they think he can fix it.

If you already see your doctor regularly, he may give you a note to see the dermatologist without making you see him first.

No. But usually you go to a regular doctor so that its cheaper. And if its serious, they can refer you to a dermatologist.
But you can just find a dermatologist instead of going through a regular doctor.

Most of the time yes because insurance will only cover it if you were refered to one by your regular doctor. If you just call one up and go..its a good change your insurance will not cover the cost.

if you have an hmo and have a primary care physician.....yes

if you have an insurance that has no primary care physician,no.... you call yourself and make appt.

some Dr's. offices require you to have a general physician call to make an appt. so therefore you do have to see another Dr. first
very confusing ha? you have to really know your insurance plan
