I also set it up on a 360 page, but I was told by someone else you don't need a 360 page to have a custom photo. Here's my old answer anyway, because I know this way works.

There are two options for you.

Either to use your picture or use your avatar. If you want to use your avatar. Visit http://avatar.yahoo.com Make your avatar there and save it. Remember if you don't save it by clicking on the button SAVE CHANGES then your avatar will not show up anywhere.

Secondly, to use a picture, you need to have 360 page. Visit http://360.yahoo.com to create your 360 page and upload your photo there. Make sure that you set your photo to be primary photo which you want to use on yahoo answers. After doing these things, come back on your yahoo answers profile. Here you click edit info and then click either the circle of using your picture or the circle of using your avatar. Now click the preview and save. It will solve your problem.
