I have a never opened bottle since last summer should I use it?

It should be fine. If there is an expiration date on the bottle then that's when it expires.

It does expired, my dermatologist has told me to get rid of any bottle that is a year old.

It does expire but not for a while, check on the label it should give you an expiration date.
