There are a few theories as to the origin of the "Rx" symbol. The most common one is that it is an abbreviation of the Latin word "recipe" which means "take". This was originally an order from the doctor to the pharmacist to compound a list of ingredients, in a time before the prevalence of pharmaceutical companies manufacturing prescription drugs.

Other possible origins include references to Egyptian and Roman mythology. The Rx symbol (an "R" with a cross on the diagonal line) looks like the major lines in the Egyptian symbol of the Eye of Horus. The Eye of Horus was worn in ancient Egypt as an amulet to bring good health and prevent illness. The symbol for pharmacy may have originally been an eye with an x below it.

The Rx symbol is also similar to the symbol for the Roman god Jupiter or the astrological symbol for the planet Jupiter. This symbol was included on medicinal formulas to either invoke the protection of Jupiter (the god) or to remove harmful properties of the medicine under the "lucky planet's" influence.

The symbol Rx was around long before the Rexall drug chain, which took its name from the symbol. It is a corruption of the Latin "take".

I will try to keep it simple. Your metabolism is basically the rate at which your body burns calories to create energy. So the faster your metabolism, the faster you burn calories and the easier it is to lose unwanted weight. To boost your metabolism naturally you just need to eat the right foods.

You can sit down and literally eat a 1,000-calorie dinner and yet be absolutely starving just a few hours later and the reason is simple: Because your body didnt get what it needed in those 1,000 calories so it sends signals to your brain telling you to ingest more calories and thus, the late-night cravings. That means that the surest way to end those late-night cravings and keep your weight loss goals on track is to eat a more balanced, nutritious diet that actually gives your body what it needs.

It's VERY EASY to lose weight if you eat the right foods. Check out this video here: http://www.sexyjese.com - it will blow your mind.

As above, it seems to be an abbreviation for the Latin for 'take'. Most good dictionaries will have some etymologic explanation and I've posted a link to one, below.
