I mean, for reports etc: I want to have it so, I can speak through the mic, and it will transcribe everything into the document I am writing. I have Office 2007, is there an add-on, or something? Or is there another document software, that will do that?

Thanks

If you have Windows XP then you already have a good speech dictation/recognition system built in. Additional capabilities can be added using the e-Speaking (website below) Voice and Speech Recognition software.

Microsoft has a good summary on their website called: "How to install and configure speech recognition in Windows XP" (see last reference below).

The combination of Microsoft's software and e-Speaking should enable you to accomplish great things with voice recognition.

You should know a little about how to dictate into the software. You cannot just simply start talking. You have to actually think about what you want to say first.

The process for converting your thoughts into text is very different from typing your thoughts than when you're talking to a computer. In order to maximize the accuracy of the speech recognition software, the speech program will attempt to adjust the spellings of words based on the context of the sentence that it hears. In other words, speech programs analyze entire phrases or sentences, not just individual words. This is why you will often see nothing on the monitor/screen until just after you stop speaking. It takes a few seconds for the computer to figure out what you were saying.

If you don't think about what you are going to say before you say it, you may end up just blabbering on about the topic but not really saying anything important. If you were to stop in mid sentence, this would reduce the ability of the software to accruately transcribe what it heard. ( http://www.speech--recognition.com/050.htm )
