Not at all if your Spay your dog. Unless your are going to mate your dog (and if you are going to I would hope that you have a prime-rated pedigree pup with papers and full veterinary records) you should probably get her spayed. Having your dog go into heat is not exactly a fun thing to deal with. It's messy and a hassle. You can also reduce the chance of cancer in your dog.
PLEASE SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS!

All dogs no matter what size go into heat about every 6 months.
