Start with https://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/index.html. But also check the library on the CIA's main site (http://www.cia.gov). No kidding.
Also, check the various links near the top of the page at http://www.us.emb-japan.go.jp/english/html/index.htm.

Wikipedia or the CIA.gov website have great information. Although the CIA website isn't updated very often and it will be much harder to find stuff, plus your technically paying for this site if you pay taxes! Wikipedia is your best bet, and it's free! Good luck!
