Nine Inch Nails - Right Where it Belongs

Lyrics::

See the animal in his cage that you built,
Are you sure what side you're on?
Better not look him too closely in the eye,
Are you sure what side of the glass you are on?
See the safety of the life you have built
Everything where it belongs
Feel the hollowness inside of your heart
And it's all, right where it belongs

What if everything around you,
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is that all you want to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks,
Would you find yourself, find yourself afraid to see?

What if all the worlds inside of your head,
Just creations of your own?
Your devils and your Gods, all the living and the dead
And you really are alone?
You could live in this illusion
You can choose to beleive
You keep looking but you can't find the words
Now you're hiding in the trees

What if everything around you,
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you used to know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is that all you want to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks,
Would you find yourself, find yourself afraid to see?

(This is probably my favorite NIN song, thus far! Can't wait to hear the interpretations for it!) =)

Interpretations Please....

I don't need to know that you don't find any spiritual meaning, or that you like Track 6 better. I want to know what people think the words mean.

Track 6 is better.

Interpretation:

We preceive life and reality as we have been taught and have grown accustomed to. Our precepts of reality have evolved to a point where we believe our singular understanding is the only correct one, and that we can be certain of our role.

However, if you take the time to take a good inventory of your beliefs, and objectively analyze how you came to them, you might realize that you really aren't as certain or as "safe" as you thought you were.

And you might fear that realization.

Then again, I never did care much for the message in a song, which is why track 6 is better ;)

So what if Katy Perry wore some thing quite skimpy on Sesame Street, no little one watches Sesame Street to appear at what the men and women are dressed in. Even if it used to be dangerous, it used to be more commonly a dresser managers notion, if it used to be rather that dangerous, some thing will have to were mentioned the day of taking pictures. Someone shouldve passed her some thing greater if it used to be rather that dangerous.

I think those lyrics are a statement of what most human beings feel. Unsure about everything. Even Christians have days when doubt rears its head. The Bible tells us this will happen. Anyone who thinks will have doubt sometimes, whether it be about God, relationships, scientific knowledge etc. Most people realize that we alone are not sufficient. They instinctively know that somewhere out there, there has to be something bigger and better. We (Christians) call him GOD.

I don't find anything remotely spiritual in those words. Maybe I haven't smoked enough weed to really understand what they mean...

Try the philosophy section, sounds like one of those "Matrix" type questions.
