Hearts (how do you do those hearts, anyway:), if you get a Golden Retriever, you will be the happiest girl in the world. He/she will be fine alone for a few hours during the day with your dad. Before you leave, make sure to play with him/her for at least 20 minutes. He will be full of energy, so he needs to have plenty of exercise before you leave him. That way, he will be tired, happy and ready to calm down and relax for a while. They are very energetic dogs, so plenty of exercise (they love to play chase, catch and return, ready to do it all over again). Remember, they are retrievers, which means...let me go get it and return it to you so we can do it again, and again, and again.
He will certainly love to sleep with you. They love comfort, love to cuddle, love to please you, and love to be talked to, especially by their best friend in the world...you.
They love to be with other dogs, so he will love your Beagle, just make sure you don't place all of your affection on your Golden, don't leave Beagle out. They love cats, birds, ferrets, they are full of love and are the happiest dogs in the world.
Run the neighborhood, on a leash, of course. He will be the happiest dog in the world, they also love children. In fact, let me tell you about Beau, my first Golden. When my children started elementary school, he would do anything to sneak out and go to the bus stop to play with the kids. After he did this a couple of times, I made sure to take him with me to see the kids off and pick them up (it was only a 2 minute walk out the back gate). He always knew when it was time for them to come home, even before I would look at the clock, he'd come get me.
They are the most compassionate dogs on this earth, they just love everyone, but they love their owner (you) the best. So, if you get a Golden Retriever, make sure you always have time for him, his happiness depends on you...he will love you, wait for you, please you, and watch over you. After all, he will think that you are his girl, but he will always be willing to share you with others. Because he will love you to heaven and back.
Now, I have to tell you about my second Golden, Dillon. He's 14 years old and blind in one eye, partially blind in the other. He had 2 tumors removed and has another, but we can't do anything about it because he's too old. He's always happy, he's always so very sweet and still loves to see company.
My son, Justin, was Dillon's boy. Justin went away to college and Dillon still misses him. Before Justin comes home I always say, "Justin's coming", and he is so happy, he looks in Justin's room over and over until he comes home.
We had a crazy ferret, whom Dillon loved. We have a Belgian Malenois (dog) whom Dillon loves and Sajack loves him. We had a cockatiel (bird) that Dillon loved, she would sit on his back. We have 6 cats, he loves all of them and they love him, too.
Make sure that you train him/her from the beginning, exercise him/her because they are very energetic, highly intelligent so they get bored without interaction, love him/her and you will never, ever regret it. Good luck and keep your new puppy close to your heart. You will never have a better friend.

It's this way.
I saw your earlier post, and I know you're in school and dance.
The thing is, a dog is a living being with feelings and needs. Dogs need several hours of play and exercise a day. You need to think about what's best for the dog, not what's best for you. Your dog will become attached to you like nothing you have ever known. While you are gone, it will only want you. It will lavish love on you like nothing else. Dogs live for the special bond they share with their owner[s]. Many people don't have time to give them the attention they need, and to be honest, I don't think you do.
Dogs also have individual personalities, like people. You can't group them into a specific category based on breed and ask if they will get along with beagles, or sleep with you.
Two dogs usually get along better when both are spayed or neutered and are opposite genders [ie a boy and a girl, rather than two girls or two boys].
Most dogs will love to sleep with their owners. Like I said, they live for that.
No dog should 'run around the neighborhood'. They could be struck by a car, hunt little animals, get into fights with other dogs, tear up people's gardens, or any number of things.
Weigh out exactly how much time you can spend a day DEVOTED to that dog [preferably several hours], what you will do with the dog when or if you go to college, and how long the dog will be alone, unattended [a bored dog will tear the house apart out of frustration].

Golden Retrievers are number 4 on the list of intelligence. They are a very companionable animal, learning quickly and retaining their training.
Yes. A few hours alone will help them to become accustomed to spending time on their own. It means that you can go do your shopping or errands and be certain that the house won't be torn apart. It's a good idea to have your dad check on the dog, it will break up the monotony if you feel you may be out too long.
Never let your dog sleep with you. It's a bad habit that people get into when their dogs are puppies and it opens the door to several behavioral no-no's. In your room, OK. On your bed, NO.
If introduced to your beagle properly he should be fine.
Don't let your dog run around the neighborhood. That's how people lose their pets and how pets get into trouble.
Compassion isn't really a word that you associate with dog behavior. But, if you're asking if they sometimes seem to be in tune with your feelings, then the answer is yes. Like any animal that we bond with they occasionally seem to know when it's best just lay quietly either at our feet or on our laps.
If you're planning to get a Golden then I wish you well. Don't forget to take the time and get him/her properly trained, starting with Puppy Kindergarten.

Goldens are usually one of the most laid-back breed of dogs. They get along with other dogs as well as cats. They are "people dogs" where they love to be with their owner, but they are okay being home alone (when they're older) for a few hours. Goldens like nothing better than trying to please their master. My golden didn't sleep in the bed with me, but she did lay on the floor next to the bed. I've had 4 different breeds of dogs and other than all of the hair, Goldens were the best breed I had. (Sorry Ariel - my shih tzu is sitting right next to me.)

Most canines and basically any canine is so cool that their 'provider' is the one that turns out screwed up. Retrievers are for those who can keep up with them and be a true mom or dad for them. They are, ........well, you need to experience what they are to know what there are.
No running around the neighborhood!!!! The laws in most areas were made to not only keep people safe but our four legged friends also.

Well when a pup I would not leave them to wander about the house but yes they can be alone for a short period of time. to the rest of your questions it is YES to all.
They are the sweetest dogs and so very intuned with their owners and other family members. When you are sad they know it and when you are happy they are happy too.
They are just beautiful dogs all around!

If you get a pup, you can bring it up that way...So yes to all those questions...
But if its older, you may have to retrain it.
Most retrievers are good with other dogs so your beagle should do fine when they get to know each other...
