Hi:

I am a flight attendant. I would recommend to you that you definitely get a degree in something useful to fall back on in case you don't like the career of aviation. It is a type of lifestyle that appeals to some, but not others. It takes at least a year of working in the industry to know whether you are truly suited for this type of work. I have never been a person who enjoys the 9-5 routine, and the idea of sitting at a desk day after day is horrible in my opinion. Follow your own heart - you may find that this is your dream job. At an airline, everything is based on seniority - routes, schedules, money.
With a major airline (not the small regional) you can make a good income after a few years. You are an adult now, make your own decisions and best of luck to you.

I currently work for the airlines, not as a flight attendant but on the ground. I do know though that the flight attendants are based at certain cities. If you live in California you may end up having your base in Orlando. And they don't tell you until AFTER you finish your training where you will be based. Usually the training (4 weeks long) is unpaid as well. And if you plan on commuting to work (flying from California to Orlando to go to work) you will have to get a crash pad. Usually it's a house with about 10 other flight attendants who share it with you. You can get a lot of time off and get paid well but unless you enjoy a lifestyle of what I listed previously it's probably not for you.

Seriously, It is your own life, not your parents or aunties or uncles. They will not be the one studying or going university to become that doctor they wanted you to be.

So you should live your own dream, not your families. Flight attendance is a fun job, traveling, but can get really demanding at times though =]

Good Luck`

Definitely become a flight attendant. Think about it You get to fly for free. You and your family will get free airline tickets. I think being a flight attendant is an awsome job. I am 15 years old and I want to be a pilot.

FA job really sounds inviting, but reality is different. If you want to get a great route, for instance US-Paris, you must be a part of a crew flying there. And guess what, an old fart(s) who is(are) a captain(s) of that(those) flight(s) wants a piece of your but (I am trying to be polite), his co-pilot too. Give it to him, and you will fly. Don't give it, and you will be "not a team player" and so on, and so on, and probably wind up on a less attractive route, where another old fart(s) who is(are) a captain(s) of that(those) flight(s) wants a piece of your but....

So, the job is great, you get to see the world, spend paid couple of days overseas, mostly sleeping, but also sighseeing, having fun, going out, meeting people, but there is a downside and it is hairy and wreckled...
