In Texas is it a felony or misdem to commit welfare fraud? What about bad checks? Is it a felony or misdem?
Can anyone please answer this question? -- Is Welfare fraud a felony or misdmemeanor in Texas? Does it depend on the $$ amount stolen from the welfare, and if it was paid back by the one who committed the fraud? Punishment given - Is it state jail-prison or penetentiary?

Also, is writing bad checks a felony or misdmeanor in Texas?

davidplainstx is right about the checks. as for welfare fraud it is definitely a felony in texas punishable by up to two years in prison. over 600,000 people in texas are on some kind of public support. (a.k.a. government cheese)!

it will normally depend on the amount of the fraud. No it does not matter if it is paid back ( since part of the sentence will be to pay it back) unless there is a plea agreement made to pay it back.

A prison, correctional facility or penetentiary is really just the same thing, often depends on your security level which can change while you are in, if you behave or not.
A jail is county and would be for a sentence less than a year.

bad checks will also depend on the amount written.

It is driven in part by the dollar value for all the items you mention and somewhat by repetitive behavior pattern.

Theft by check is considered fraud and if you know you do not have the money it is viewed as more serious.
