This country is based on Christianity so why are people shocked when laws are based on it? Why should the country change when this is what it was founded on? If you don't like it and you are not Christian why don't you leave? Just a question, not trying to start a fight, I am just curious.

For all of you who have answered me in such a rude manner I say shame on you. This site is for fun and there is no need to get vicious, everyone is allowed their own opinion. The united states is known to be a Christian Country. We swear on the Bible in court and talk about God on our money. There are websites such as retakingamerica.com to support this. There are also websites stating this to be false such as taylormarsh.com.Whatever side you are is no reason to be so rude. As for me being retarded that is no insult to me,my niece has Downs Syndrome and she is the light of my life.I mainly put this question out there to see what kind of response I would get and I can see there are alot of mean spirited people out there who are just waiting to rip someone to shreds. My apologies to people in other countries,I did not make clear which country I was speaking of.

I agree with you. The reason they stay is because of their FREEDOMS that they would not have any where else. In America our soldiers have died so they can say whatever they wish...no matter how stupid it is. Yes American laws were based on biblical truths....but unfortunately we have slid down the slippery slope into the muck and mire with many our UNGodly laws. Again that is why they stay....they seem to have a great "influence" on that which is not Godly.

First, I assume you are referring to the United States? If that is the case, then I disagree with just about everything you said. We live in a country that was founded by white, aristocratic Christian men who just finished a long bloody war with the British. Doesn't the bible say something about not killing people? This country's original pledge of allegiance did not include the words "under god." What happened? The Declaration of Independence says all men were created equal, yet we still instituted slavery and segregation. What happened? Women are allowed to vote now. Isn't that something? The country has changed in the last three hundred years. Maybe if you crawled out from the under your rock, you would have been around to see it...

The country is based on Christian beliefs but the answer is that people would like their own way and sometimes they don't understand. This country makes laws based on what has happened to prevent it from happening again and some of the laws were thought of already. Truth be told some of the motion of the government are stupid. Not every law is based on Christianity but they aren't leaning to other religions either.
I hope that best answers your question.

The argument that non believers give is that church (Christianity or any other religion) and state should be kept seperate. Oddly enough, from a constitutional standpoint, that is exactly what it says.

However, according to American History, this law (seperation of church and state) was put on the books to prevent government from interfering with the practice of a religion, not to keep a religion for interfering with the government.

The people who wrote our original constitution had come from an environment where the state told the people what and who and how they were allowed to worship and our forefathers did not want the same thing to happen here. Basically I guess people who complain about Christian ethics being part of our laws do so because they misunderstand the intent of the law.

People are probably upset because the U.S. is not based on the Christian religion, at all. The vast majority of the so-called "founding fathers" were not Christians at all. Rather, they were Deists--people who believed that God probably existed, but that after God created the universe, he left it entirely on its own (the "clockmaker" god). Thus, the did not believe in personal salvation, or that Jesus was in any sense God.

Besides, even if you were right (and a simple historical fact-checking shows you are not), why does it matter how the country was founded? Countries can change over the years--particularly those countries that supposedly cherish freedom of religion.

First of all, I have no idea which country you are talking about. Are you aware that you are on the Australia branch of this website?

Secondly (as I assume you mean America) the United States was not based on the Chr*stian religion. The founding fathers were not Chr*stian. Well, if you want to call signing the Declaration of Independence (all men are created equal) with your slave standing in the room a tenet of Chr*stianity, so be it. But if you had read any of the basic documents that began to define this country you will find that nowhere does it mention Xtianity or J*sus or anything else having anything remotely to do with Xtianity....so I have no idea where you get the idea that the country is based on the Chr*stian religion.

What this country IS based on is freedom of religion. So, if YOU don't like it, YOU can leave.

Thanks bye.

More importantly, this country is based on freedom. Freedom of religion ring a bell? Sheesh. Christianity is coincidental, and consequential of slavery in some cases. Hate, mis understanding, insecurity, fear, and poverty. You help spread those things with perspectives like yours. Not that I'm judging you. Maybe you've changed since you wrote that. I'm only going based on what you revealed in your question. Peace be with you. If a savior does exist, do you honestly think he would encourage the embarrassment, and pain caused by judements such as you seem to be making? Please think it over. It's probably not your fault. Most flaws are caused by our nurturing, not our true nature. You weren't born cruel, and neither were your parents. And you probably are really nice to white christians.

It was not founded but took en over by Christianity. Your right to say why are people so shock when laws are based on Christianity b/c I'm not. That still doesn't make it right though. Basically this country is founded by white men and they dictated what laws are.

She is referring to the United States of America. Yes I understand how you feel about this topic. The US was established with many of its laws reflective of Christianity. What we must remember however is that people in general are very selective in the use of their memory.

Change is inevitable, change must take place for progress to occur however I fear that people choose to change those aspects of America that make it a good country. I believe that if we all followed laws based on Christianity we would not be having the problems we are experiencing now.

I hope that people will take a look at what the laws purposes are and how effective they are before they choose to complain about them because of their origin.

This country AMERICA is not based on the Christian Religion!

This country was formed as A Republic, which had a Moral Base from the Christian Heritage of many of the Founding Fathers!

BESIDES, how could our Nation be Christian, WHEN WE HAVE MURDERED 35-Million babies in the Womb, and Freely PRACTICE = PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION where the Child is Partially Born and then KILLED!

TRUE, many of Our Laws are based on the Moral Code of the Bible! BUT, since 1776 Many of our laws have been Changed AGAINST to go against the Bible and its READ IN SCHOOLS!

Thanks, RR

You are wrong.

It is based on deistic philosophy, not christian.

"Why should the country change when this is what it was founded on?"

That is a pretty stupid argument. Because we have done something for so long, we should just keep doing it?

"If you don't like it and you are not Christian why don't you leave?"

And if you don't like it and are christians, what should you do, just shutup and take it?

Fact of the matter is the United States is a democracy, and as a democracy it is UP TO THE PEOPLE TO DECIDE THE LAW AND WAY OF THE COUNTRY.

Perhaps if you don't like the concept of democracy you should leave.
