I have recently been diagnosed with OCD, anxiety, and depression and I was started off with 100mg of Zoloft. I was also wondering about possible side effects and personal experiences anyone knows about or has experienced while on Zoloft.

Thank you.

you take what your doctor prescibes. If you are not feeling right about the amount, ask your doctor or pharmacist, not people on answers.

No 100mg isnt alot. I was prescribed 50mg of zoloft at first and had to increase after a month to 100mg. I think 100 is the perfect amount. Some side effects I had during the first two weeks (after that they disappeared) were dry mouth, a little insomnia, it didnt increase my appetite it actually decreased it I was not hungry at all, and I found it to take a little longer to have an orgasum but that recently went away and I'm back to normal (I've been on zoloft for 3 months now). Zoloft changed my life you will definitly notice a huge difference and feel so much better. From someone who has suffered from anxiety all my life I always wished I could just be chilled out and relaxed like all my friends but never could and now with zoloft I can. Goodluck to you!!!

I have been taking 25 mg zoloft for the past 3 weeks and I feel like a new person. I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder when I was a kid but didnt do anything about it until I just got really sad for no reason. I was sad all the time when befor I used to be a bubbly happy person. My dr gave me a rx for 50 mg and told me to start off by taking half that every day and if I didnt feel at what I wanted to to take the whole pill. so far 25 is enough.
Side effects for me have been reduced hunger and the first few days to a week I felt a little more tired then usual.
I have a friend who was started on 100 2 years ago and now she takes 150, so maybe your conditions were more serious.

No, 100mg isn't "too much", and nor is it "a lot". 100mg is probably an average dose for somebody battling anxiety, OCD and depression. Dosing can range from 25mg all the way to 200mg. In my experience, the Zoloft did not help with any of my problems and I went all the way up to 200mg, where I stayed for 6 months. This dose still did not curb my anxiety or depression and so I was taken off of it approximately one month ago. With Zoloft (like a lot of other anti-depressants) coming off of it means that you may experience withdrawal headaches and other conditions, but I didn't. Again, that probably has to do with the fact that it didn't affect me in the first place. Everybody's brain chemistry is different, so it could help you tremendously or it could do nothing. It's just a matter of finding the right prescription at the right dosage.

And PS: Anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications have a drastically higher success rate when used with effective therapy.

Hello. I am no doctor, nurse. I am a person suffering from depression and have been put in and out of psychitric wards for a while. I was started off on Zoloft at 100mg. That did nothing for me. Yet I will let you know that Zoloft is an S.S.R.I. In the full term it would be Selective Seretonin Reuptake Inhibitor. It would depend upon the persons weight, and "disorders", etc, to see if 100mg of Zoloft is too much, yet I do not believe so in your case. :) Take care and be kind to yourself.

Well, only your doc can make that kind of call, but I will say that I had AWFUL side effects w/Zoloft every time I'd take a higher dose.

I had to start at a low dose, stay on it for a couple of weeks, then step up a level. I couldn't handle taking even 50 mg at the beginning--I had to use one of those starter-pack things to gradually work up to taking higher dosages.

Edit: BTW, I took it for anxiety issues.
If you have really bad side-effects, ASK about stepping up your dosage GRADUALLY. I had to quit taking it b/c the side-effects were just too hard to handle. Keep track of how you feel! It's important to know how the medicine is affecting you so you can tell your doc.

omg , i have exactly all of those same symptoms, holy ****. i was on the 100 mg of zoloft , it was horrible , you experience hunger even when your not hungry at all , every five minutes you want to eat , it makes you fat , it makes your depression go away but it does not do good on OCD and anxiety , clonazepam is really good for anxiety. Zoloft is basically good at depression , it lasts 3-6 months than it wears off, getting off the pill you experience strong withdrawls that will make u want to feel hospitalized. At first or maybe the next 2 days , it you will feel alot of tingling in your head , and it will make you feel sucidal in the begining , that's why the pill is not recommended for 18 and under

I guess it depends on the person as with any medication. I have been taking Zoloft for 10 yrs without any side effects.they say it takes 2 to 3 weeks to feel any difference. If it wasn't for Zoloft i probably would be dead right now. Make sure you let your Dr. know of any changes that may occur even if you think it doesn't matter. Hope it works for you....

That seems like alot to soon. My doctor started me off at 50 mg, then after a week went up to 100 mg. Side effects are usually dry mouth, increase in appetite . Which does not last very long once you get regulated. But after about 6 weeks you ahould start to see positive results in your mood. I had ocd and it totally knocked that out. Also anxiety, completely gone. Plus you will be alot happier.

Fifty milligrams is kind of the introductory amount but 100 isn't out of the ballpark. It could make you initially feel a little tired, but otherwise, I've taken it for anxiety and anorexia and it takes a couple of weeks to really start working, but it does take away a substantial amount of the anxiety. Could cause some low libido or difficulty reaching orgasm and some people have told me they gained a bit of weight on it...although I've had other people tell me it lessened their appetites and they lost weight. I've been taking it on and off since 1995 and have had no problems whatsoever on it. Good luck.

I was on it in 2004 I started low then was at 100mg a couple weeks after. Personally, I couldn't tell the difference and I know each individual has different tolerances. So one person could be effected by 10mg as much as another to 200mg.
