Tornado's happen all over the world....... even over here in England. It just that the ones in "Tornado alley" get more coverage, as they happen more often.

Yes most tornadoes happen in the Midwest, but they can happen almost anywhere. For example I have personal seen tornadoes in Florida, Colorado, Texas, and Salt Lake City, Utah. The first three get tornadoes fairly regularly, but a lot of people taught it was not possible to get tornadoes in the mountain valleys. The fact is weather is unpredictable and tends to ignore the limitations we put on it.

Um, I haven't heard of a tornado in California?? Though I haven't watched the news yet today...maybe I missed it. Although they say that tornadoes can form anywhere, it just happens more often than not in Tornado Alley. I went through one in 1989, and believe me they are scary. It went right over our house, and it sounded like a train was going right over us. (I grew up near Fort Worth, Texas)

A tornado can form anywhere that the conditions are right for one. We get the lion's share of them here in "Tornado Alley" (The region stretching from Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas up through Nebraska) but they can and do happen in all states.

Think of it this way--in California, you expect to experience lots of earthquakes. In Oklahoma, we expect tornadic storms. Even so, we still get a few (mild) tremors here in our part of the country. Its not evidence of anything. Its unusual--but not strange.
