My 3 year old son still drinks out of a sippy cup. Is he too old for this? My mom is his main babysitter and I tell her not to give it to him but she does. She doesn't think anything is wrong with it. So how old is too old?

Once they hit three, they should start learning how to use a regular cup. Also, a parent of one of my students is a speech therapist, and she told me that prolonged use of the sippy cups can lead to speech problems (which I had no idea!). She said when they were necessary, to use the ones with straws. Sucking from a straw helps to exercise certain muscles in your mouth that help to make certain sounds. So what I would do if I were you: Have him use a regular cup when he is with you, and get him a couple of the sippy cups that have straws pop up for when he's with your mom, if you really can't convince her otherwise.

I don't think it is a problem. My daughters are 3 and still use a sippy cup. They know how to drink from a regular cup, I just still use a sippy so they don't spill their drink everywhere. If you have a problem with the sippy cup thing you could always gets ones that have a straw, so the top is still covered but it is more like a regular cup.

Your doing great! My daughter began the sippy cup at 6 months as nicely we besides the shown fact that needed a company distinction in sippy cup and bottle, The bottle would be eradicated at one 300 and sixty 5 days anyhow for the reason which you will not do formula, you may provide her different juices or water in the sippy cup yet confirm to ask your ped till now doing cows milk because of the fact they actually do unlike you to introduce it till a minimum of 9 months below supervision or 300 and sixty 5 days once you eliminate formula. Defenatly do not replace any of her prevalent formula feedings with cows milk she nevertheless needs the nutrition modern-day in formula for now. Have a great 4th

no way he's not too old.
the intent of the sippy cup is to avoid parents the mess of cleaning up after a messy kid!
my son is over 3 and using a sippy cup, when my lil sister(now 7) moved with us for a while we gave her a sippy cup to drink from and she was 4. all i wanted to avoid was her spilling grape juice (her fave) in my new light yellow couch.
i would say too old is anything after 5.

i think a sippy at that age is ok if they are running around the house but NOT if they are sitting down having a snack or meal. my son is turning 2 in 2 weeks and already drinking out of a normal cup at meals and snack time. I let him drink out of his sippy when he runs around so it don't spill every where

That is a personal choice. Your still fine. My kids are 15 and 6, all summer they use nothing but sports bottles, So they can carry a drink with them. Thats about the same. If you think hes too old get him a sports bottle and try it out.

I don't think three is a problem. My kids were probably closer to 4 when I switched them over to a regular cup.

Well, I've seen 5 year old kids who still drink from a sippy cup.

If you feel is too old to drink from it, you ought to do something about it, since it is your child you should choose what is best for him/her rather than other person.

But do it, without hurting your mom's feelings.

i think your mom is right on this one. i dont think there is a problem with sippy cups for kids of any age. but i do suggest teaching him how to use a big boy cup too.
