MY PUPPY DOESN'T SEEM TO LIKE EUKANUBA OR IAMS... AND MY VET IS REFERING ME TO PURINA PUPPY FORMULA, WHICH HE SELLS... BUT, IVE BEEN READING BAD THINGS ABOUT THESE COMMERCIAL DOG FOODS, AND MY PUP WAS A VICTIM OF THE RECALL FOODS, AND I WAS THINKING OF SOMETHING A LOT MORE HEALTHIER FOR HIM. (THE VET TOLD ME HE NEEDS THE FAT IN THESE COMMERICAL BRANDS) I DONT KNOW WHO TO BELIEVE... ANY GREAT, HEALTHY, WHOLESOME, BRANDS FOR PUPPIES OUT THERE THAT YOU ALL KNOW OF? WHAT TO LOOK FOR, ETC.? THANK YOU!!!

Of course your vet is going to refer Purina to you, he sells it! Eukanuba, Iams and Purina are just some of the many BAD foods for dogs. Innova Puppy Dry and California Natural Puppy are the best two brands you can buy. They have very natural, human grade ingredients (ingredients that YOU would eat). Purina, Eukanuba and Iams have a lot of grains (the top 3 ingredients) and then by-products.

The top 3 ingredients in dog food (dry) should ALWAYS be meat.

I also have a 3 month old shih tzu. He was on Nutro Natural Choice but didnt like it too well. He now eats Chicken Soup for the Puppy's Soul, he loves it and it is an exelent food!!! i wouldnt recommend anything else. Also Nutro is known for making dogs throw up, even though it is a good food.

I recently spent some time trying to figure out the best food to feed my Shih tzu. I had been feeding her The Science Diet because I thought it was good food but recently have heard that it's not all that healthy. After some research I decided to feed her Blue Buffalo. It has healthy ingredients and wasn't involved in the recent dog food recall. It's available at PetSmart. I have also heard really good things about Canidae dog food. But since it wasn't available where I live I decided to use Blue Buffalo. My little dog loves it.

I use Eagle Pack for my Cocker Spaniel Puppy. I had her on Nutro's Natural Choice and she would throw up 2-3 times a week so I switched her over and she is doing great. I highly recommend this food. You can find a retailer near you by going to Eaglepack.com.

I believe NutroMax or NutroNatural Dog food is one of the best to feed dogs. I have standard poodles and feed them the puppy formula, and now I feed them the small bites since they are so picky. Certain breeds of puppies can be skinny when young -- for mine I put dog gravy on top of their food. Also I gave them table scraps once a day to fatten them up. Don't let him overeat the table scraps but for deep chested breeds like mine table scraps during the day can help prevent bloat.

Basically I would feed him a good food like Nutro and give him plenty of treats and people food (that arent toxic to dogs) like cheese, peanut butter

You can choose any food that is good for your dog, reading the lables helps. If he won't eat it you can try dog toppings, such as special gravy made for dogs etc.. You can even learn how to make stuff like that for your dog.

My mother suggests Purina Puppy Chow as well. It has been used by her and our dogs are healthy, happy and content. Good luck with your food problem though.

By the way, you should be able to get it at a store, it shouldn't be as expensive, (if you go to Wall*Mart, they might have it). That is whay I suggest. ^.~
