Well im 5'10" and I weigh roughly 160 pounds and technically according to the BMI (Body Mass Index) i am on the top end of my idea weight. I dont think that the BMI is all that acurate, but it is a good rule of thumb to make estimates by. I'd say you would be ok if you got down at least closer to 200. If you are that size at age 15 it sounds like you are just a naturally bigger guy so dont set unrealistic goals for yourself. Aim for 200 and if you can reach that maybe think about going down a bit more. It depends on how hard you are willing to work to get your weight down. I assume you are probably freshman/sophomore in high school? If you really want to get whipped into shape in a hurry join the wrestling team because your coach will work you to loose as much weight as possible, plus you'll gain a lot of muscle. If you want to go it alone it is going to take a long time. Just start by eating a little bit less and go for a jog 3 days a week. Also it is good to have a weight regiment because you actually burn more calories in the long run lifting weights than you do running because of the recovery time after you are done lifting is still burning calories.

I think you are about 10 to 15 pounds overweight. Figure out your body mass index to be sure. Type in BMI in a search engine to learn how to calculate this. Increase your physical activity. Go for a run after school and just eat less.

Google "weight calculator" and you can find a site that will ask for your age, height, current weight and then will tell you how much you should weigh, etc.
