Do you mean Palm Springs as in the city of, or are you referring to the entire Coachella (Co-chella') Valley which is 8 other cities? The main drag in Palm Springs is Palm Canyon Dr. This used to be the spring break hot spot years ago but Sonny Bono eliminated that when he was mayor. There are great restaurants on that strip and a few fun bars. A very popular bar is the Martini Dome at The Falls Steakhouse, just above Ruby's Diner. Be sure to check out the historic Melvyn's Ingleside Inn where old Hollywood actors used to hang out. Have a drink there. Some other things to do in Palm Springs: hike the indian canyons, visit the Spa Resort Casino to gamble or soak in the hot mineral waters. Their spa is very good. There is horseback riding at Smoketree Ranch on S. Palm Canyon. The Palm Springs Art Museum is just off Palm Canyon and has 20th-century modern and contemporary art plus Native American artifacts. They are down the street behind Starbucks at Palm Canyon and Tahquitz. Celebrity Tours has bus tours of old celebrity homes. Jeep Canyon tours can take you around Palm Springs or out to a very cool tour of the San Andreas Fault Line. They also do tours out to Joshua Tree, which is amazing. (Go to Joshua Tree with or without the jeep tour if you have time. And, be sure to stop at Pappie & Harriet's for BBQ in Pioneertown while you are up there. And check out the old western movie sets.) If you like WWII aviation, try The Palm Springs Air Museum on Gene Autry Trail. The Moorten Botanical Gardens has 3,000 examples of desert cacti and plants. You must see the Palm Springs Follies just once. The long legged lovelies, as they are known, are 60 to 80 year old showgirls. They are awsome. You won't believe what they can do!
The Desert Sun is the local newspaper and has the most comprehensive calendar of events. Check it out at http://www.thedesertsun.com/calendar
They also have a visitors guide at http://www.thedesertsun.com/visitorsguide
Resorts: The Agua Caliente Resort & Casino in downtown PS has no golf course. Most of the golf resorts are down valley (east) in Palm Desert, La Quinta and Indian Wells. The La Quinta Resort and Club is historic and a lot of celebs still stay there. Stay if you can, if not just go check it out. It's on Eisenhower in La Quinta. The Desert Springs Marriott is a VERY popular resort. They are surrounded by a lake and boats can transports you to the various restaurants on the grounds. Go check out the (live) parrots and pink flamingos- seriously! Also popular are Renaissance Esmeralda, Hyatt Grand Champions, Miramonte Resort (all in La Quinta) and Westin Mission Hills (Rancho Mirage).
If it's all the cities of the valley that you are interested in, The Desert Sun covers those too. My faves are El Paseo for shopping, The Living Desert, polo at Empire Polo Field. Take a drive up highway 74 and go as fas as Idyllwild. Enjoy your time in our valley!

We had the same problem when visiting Palm Springs. Main things to do are golfing, gambling (resort/casino), eating, shoping at outlets, and spas.

I didn't have much to do when I went either. My friends and I just ate, shopped and relaxed. If you drive a few miles to the Morongo, there is a club on the main floor.
