We just had a baby girl and the neighbors decorated our house with signs and balloons. How long should we leave them out there for?

I would've said 3-to-7 days, but after reading the potential for kidnappers, I'd bring them inside right away. Of course you'll thank your neighbors for their thoughtfulness, although letting them know about the risk may be a touchy subject, better left unsaid, for now at least.

Tell them you want to enjoy the decorations on the inside of the house :~)

Congratulations to you!

You don't have to leave them up. You can take them down. I did learn in my OB nursing rotation that decorations such as these are advertisements to potential kidnappers that an infant is present in the house. You might want to take them down and thank your neighbors for their good intentions, you don't need to bring up the advertising for kidnappers :) It was a thoughtful gesture and maybe some you can save to show the baby when she is older. Sounds like you have caring sweet neighbors!

Until she's 18.

When the balloons start to collapse, I'd take them in.

That's usually a few days, maybe a week.

Take it down now, it's a great advertisement to the rest of the world that you're exhausted new parents, and maybe not as aware of possible intruders as you might be otherwise.

Until the baby comes home.

Longer than that, and any crazy baby-thief looking for a daughter will know exactly where to get one!

Sorry, but there's a lot of whackos in this world!

i agree with the other person, these days i wouldn't rec putting it out there that you have a new healthy baby, kidnappers are lurking everywhere - in fact my discharge nurse was very forcefull telling me knot to go announcing the arrival of a healthy baby for that fact.

I'd leave it up for a week and then take it inside. Maybe you can keep something in a scrapbook for her when she gets older.

as long as you want to leave it out there would be OK. Personally, I would leave it out there for atleast 2 weeks.
