Recently, I have been getting severe knee pain (I am 15 years old and a figure skater). It is due to loose kneecaps, which is pretty much a permanent issue that will always give me problems (however it is managed with light physical therapy). Since I've been hurting, I've been gaining a little weight because I haven't been able to run, jump, etc. because everything like that hurts my knees. Even doing a high setting on a stationary bike hurts. I have been cutting back on food, but nothing seems to work and I miss the feeling of getting my heart rate up. Is there any kind of workout I could do that would get my heart rate up/burn a lot of calories, and not hurt my knees?

Thanks!

I know you mentioned it but I do the stationary bike for the exact Same reason.
I had knee surgery when I was 18 because I have loose kneecaps and had ligaments that would pull and I am still living with a part of the issues that come with it. I am 31 now.
But,
the reason the stationary bike works is I take is easy. You may need to use the lowest setting and work out in increments each day.
Split up your workouts too, and you'll get it all in, so that you get it done for what you want.
I agree though that Eliptical machines are one of the best ways to go and I love those alot myself. See what works out though.
But don't give up. The best thing I would see, is go and see an orthopedic doctor/surgeon and see what they recommend for exercise as less stress on knees.

I suffer from almost no cartalidge left in my knees and I utilize an eliptical machine wich has minimal impact if any at all and yes swimming is the perfect solution too it works your muscles almost entirely.

I have the same problem but manage to stay in shape with pilates (not all moves will work) and an eliptical machine.

swimming will take the weight off of your knees and if you do it enough, off of your butt.
