Well, It really depends on your prior relationship. If you and this guy were romantically involved, he might of used that line "dinner date to catch up", as to not sound pushy. He might want to pursue or rekindle your past relationship if it was one of bf/gf. If you and this guy were always platonic, then I would think, it should be taken at face value, two friends catching up. Whatever the reason, I hope it works out for you in the best possible lite. Hm. not usually. If you're adults, then usually "dinner date to catch up" means just that. If you're teenagers or in college, for a girl that means, "hey, I haven't seen you in a while- you're d@mn fine. Lets go get something to eat." because all they hear is, "blah blah blah DATE blah blah." good luck.
