I was told it was just a broken blood vessel (by a person who saw the eye and spoke to a vet on the phone), but the swelling concerns me. He doesn't seem to be in any pain. I was also told to just let it heal, maybe to apply a little ointment to it.

Hi there I am a Veterinarian Tech and hope to help! At our clinic we never ever fool around with the eyes, we always consider that an immediate "must see". Especially Pugs, who are a breed that are more prone to eye problems. I highly recommed you making a call to your vet to get an appointment. Please do not allow this to heal on its own. Your vet needs to take a look and prescribe proper medication to treat the area. Good luck!

Pugs are prone to eye problems. It would be best to have a vet check it out to ensure that it is nothing bad. The $35 for a visit is nothing compared to peace of mind. And if it is something worse, it will be better to catch it while it's minor rather than waiting until it something serious, painful, and expensive.

Listen to Red. Pugs have inclinations to eye problems. I used to own a pug. She had a slight eye problem I thought I could fix. It spread to the other eye and she ended up going blind after I spent 1500 bucks at the vet. It would have been cured with a simple injection had I taken her earlier.

If you want the best possible answere, take him to the vet. It could be the broken blood vessel, or it may possibly be a different cause, lika an ingrown hair or such. I would suggest taking him in if you are really concerned. Good luck, I hope it heals fine.

You probably should let the vet see your dogs eye. He can not know what type of injury it is without seeing it. One of my dogs had a cherry eye and it never healed until it was surgically fixed.

Do not think you can fix it yourself. Trust me, I went that route once. It cost me a whole lot more to undo my own fixing (about $750) then if I would have just taken her in.
