Hell is a place where sinners really do burn in an everlasting fire, and not just a religious symbol designed to galvanise the faithful, the Pope has warned. But how does he know this?

He is Satan. I'd like to see a better explanation than that.

All Christians believe that hell really exists.

No one really knows what hell is like. It has been described by people who have not been there as everything from flames to a frozen lake (Dante).

Hell is the state of complete and final self-exclusion from communion with God and the blessed, reserved for those who refuse by their own free choice to believe and be converted from sin, even to the end of their lives

With love in Christ.

How does the Pope "know"? I don't think he does, but as the leader of the Roman Catholic church, it is his job to lead his people and if he feels the need to remind people that hell exists, then I figure let me remind us. Nothing new to me.

The first paragraph of that article is not a direct quote, so I don't give it a lot of weight.

The Pope doesn't know it. He may believe it, but he has no proof. No one alive can know.
