I have a 1 year old Shih tzu and she has brought so much joy into our family. I was curious to hear from other people with shih tzu's and what they love and don't love about their pet.

I've had a shih tzu/maltese for a about a year now and she has brought more joy into my house than I could ever imagine. They have the BEST personalities. She is so loyal, loves other animals and people, is very stubborn-doesn't like to listen but eventually will :) She is very smart and loves to snuggle with me on the couch after a long day of work. I could go on and on. Only thing that is hard about them is the grooming, but I'll take frequent haircuts over shedding any day! She's been my companion while my husband is away in Iraq and she makes everyday bearable. Thanks for giving me the chance to brag about my puppy!!!

i have a 3.5 year old shih tzu and i think she is the best. She acts just like an infant. She had her own car seat, diaper bag, stroller and she even drinks out of a bottle. From the 3 years we had her we have taught her many things. The first thing is to dance or spin around when she wants a cookie, bark when stranger come around, and swim in a 30 foot round pool.Another thing we have taught her to do is be easy around my niece how has cerebral palsy and autism. I love her to death. I do believe if i dint have 2 big black labs i would get more shih tzus.

My family had a Shih Tzu namd Tsuki when I was a little girl. She was very gentle when my little brother and I played with her, and nobody has any bad memories of her at all. She didn't usually like bigger dogs and would bark at them or hide; but many small dogs get scared of the big ones, so we don't blame her for anything.

I think that Shih Tzus make great pets, actually. :)

My friend has a 1 year old shih tzu and she says that the worst thing about a shih tzu is that you have to groom it a lot. Everything else, she loves.... :^)=

Shih Tzu's are very loving and easy going dogs :) They're easy to train and get along with most people and most dogs, which makes them a great family pet.
Beware of the teeth though - since their faces are so small the teeth don't have much space to grow properly. Make sure you're brushing her teeth regularly or taking her for a professional cleaning once a year, or you could have a large vet bill when they have to start pulling them. That's what happened to my parent's dog - $700 and 17 teeth pulled to releive his pain!

I've wanted a maltese cross poodle for ages now, but yesterday I went to the pet shop and there was a little shih tzu cross poodle and it is seriously one of the cutest dogs I've ever seen. It looks like a teddy bear. It's almost as cute as a bulldog, and I love bulldogs!!

I just got my three mo old shih tzu..... Im acutally on here looking for the BEST food to feed him, he doesnt like Eukanuba or Iams... so Im hunting....

What I've found in the past two mos. of having him is...

1. sleeps under the bed
2. they eat their own poop- yes, I know... disgusting but, they almost ALL do it....
3. Stubborn, Stubborn, Stubborn
4. But very loyal- he goes EVEYWHERE I go

Have fun! Everywhere I've gone w/ him fellow shih tzu pwners tell me the loves and loves and loves of having their own shih tzu!!

I had a shi-tzu for 13 years (passed away long time ago) and I loved her.

My shi-tzu was rather independent (meaning, she didn't *live* to please me) and therefore, I learned that it wasn't easy to train her to do alot of tricks. She enjoyed human company, but she didn't need constant attention. She would be by my side if I were watching TV or reading...so she was also a pretty good lapdog. I also think shi-tzu's are rather stubborn at times.

In any case, I loved shi-tzu's. I'm thinking of getting another shi-tzu as soon as my current dog (mixed breed) is older.

My little Chea (she looked like a Chea pet when she was a baby) lived almost 14 years the only thing I didn't like is the hair I have asthma and it bothered me but because I loved her dearly I managed. She was so smart and she was just so cute she would shake her hips when she walked and she was a true princess if there ever was one. I lost her in august of last year and I still get weepy when I think about how much I loved her and miss her.
Good luck to you and many happy years with your fur baby.
