Good luck. I was once in a similar situation and got stonewalled and passed around until I was blessed enough to find one compassionate woman in the system who was able to tell me where the party in question was. He'd been at county jail and was told he was being sent to a particular facility, but when the bus arrived there were no beds and he was immediately sent to another facility where he was given no access to phones or mail for a month.
Contact the police department where he was taken into custody. Find out where they sent him and go from there. If they won't give you specifics, ask hypotheticals. "If a person were arrested for X, where would they be sent." Try asking, not if he is there or not but phrasing it as if you know he is and want to be sure of details for mailing or visiting. They may be more willing to admit he's in a given place if you act like you already know.
Again, good luck. It can be a frustrating and stressful process and I hope you get what you need. God Bless.

The answer to this may well vary by state. They are, of course, independent of one another and maintain their records separately. I would recommend the easiest way is to contact his family. If no family, try his lawyer. He must at least have had a public defender. You could also try the clerk of courts for the criminal court where he was convicted. There should be a report in his file as to his sentencing, which frequently includes the place of incarceration. The criminal files are public records. That is why the newspapers are able to give you the information as to number of counts, and the charges actually filed. Finally, There is also, of course, the District Attorney's office. They are, after all, the ones who sent him there.
Good luck to you.

Try your state website, they should have a link to the correctional facility; there you can find phone #s. You can also call your local county jail and ask them. They should be able to tell you were he was transfered to. Just make sure you keep his ss# and or birth date if you have them. Good luck.

GO TO THE FEDERAL, STATE OR COUNTY COURT RECORDS HALL AND ENTER HIS NAME IN THE DATABASE. SOMEONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO TELL YOU WHAT HE DID, HOW LONG HE IS LOCKED UP AND WHERE, WHEN TO VISIT.
GOOD LUCK.
