Has anyone went to see a Psychologist for depression? Did it help? I've been very depressed lately...but I'm not like "crazy." I take a good care of myself and have no problem socializing with others. It only happens when I'm alone in my room at night. I really need help but I don't know where to go? Is it a good idea to go see a psychologist since my insurance covers for it?

surely U SHOULD TRY, a psychologist may also helpful in the sence if he/she feels u need medicine, u can be refered also to a psychiatrist as well.but it seems that u will be better soon by few tips as u have control and confident over major part of day..it also seems some childhood or past fears come out to see alone in the night..only a psychologist can analyse it in a better way....u r advised not to take it as a disease but just a shadow of a past event, still boiling in yr consious, that will be soon relieved , when u constantly remind u that you are quite ok and this is just feeling and nothing else...

It's a really good idea to see one. They may even recommend seeing a psychiatrist for some form of medication. I currently see a psychologist once a week for depression and it is helping. I'm also on some pretty heavy medication and with the combination of the 2 I'm starting to feel better. It's been a few months and it's a slow process, but it is worth checking out. And don't feel obligated to stay with one psychologist. Shop around and find one that works for you, you need to feel comfortable with this person to make progress. Good luck.

I've had mostly beneficial experiences with psychologists and therapists. I have mild depression and GAD, and right now my major issue is PTSD so I have to go to therapy every so often. For me, just talking to someone who understands is beneficial. They can offer insight about why you're feeling the way you do, and chances are you probably haven't thought of it. I've also tried Lexapro, but I had really bad side effects with it so I stopped. I have nothing against anti-depressants or anything, but I just feel that therapy has helped me alot more. Give it a try, and if you don't feel comfortable with that psychologist, try another one. It took me a few tries to find someone I "clicked" with.
