Start by mowing your parents lawn for $10 a week. Save your money til you have enough to purchase a Prepay cell phone & card. Virgin is pretty good with cards good for 60 or 90 days and they start at $20. Ask for Top-up card for Christmas & b-day. After maintaing the account for a year then I think you have some bargaining power. Thats what my son did at 11 and at 14 I added him to my account, now he pays me the difference of $10 a month and he doesn't go over our family minutes...that's a deal breaker!
Happy mowing!!!

You're going to have to do A LOT better than that. I'm not even your parent and I'm not convinced that anyone under the age of 14 NEEDS a cell phone.

You could start by convincing yourself (and us) why you WANT a cell phone and list the reasons.

Getting anything because all your friends have one might be the absolute worst idea I've heard all week, and there's already a hell of a top 10 list.

I used to agree that 11 is too young for a cell phone, however if you happen to get abducted, or lost, or stranded etc.... it is an excellent thing to have. All you have to do is hit 911 and the GPS will find you. Maybe you could suggest that you would be much safer with one and there are cell phones that you can get from the "Disney" store that allow your parents to limit your outgoing and incoming calls only to preassigned numbers so until you earn their trust they can make sure you only use it to call them, the police and a predetermined set of friends.

I think if you put it to them this way, they may be a little more flexible about the idea.

Act more responsible. Say you will be careful and not go over your minutes. Give reasons why you should have one, like you can call to say you'll be home late or something and it will be helpful for you if you're in trouble.
I do wanna say though, "11? I didn't get mine until I was like 13. Hmm..." =P

Try to show them how responsible you can be.
