A bagel is a bread made with yeast dough. It is boiled and then baked. Pastry is made by incrporating fat into the dough, folding , etc. Not pastry. It is a bread.

bagels you would put under a bread or carbohydrate group.
It's not really a pastry. A pastry is more like a cookie, a poptart. A small cake.....
