I am considering moving out of the area into Birmingham, and I know i can keep my dentist if i move, but can i keep my doctor too? I like my doctor and he knows all the problems i've had over the last couple of years, and would rather keep him, than TRY and get another on the NHS!

Pretty much guaranteed the answer will be no. Particularly under the new contract doctors have to clearly define their practice areas. If they begin to take patients outside their designated area they run in to problems with allocated patients. Once they begin to accumulate patients in this way they are obliged to provide all services, including house calls. This becomes unworkable.

When I moved miles away I had to change and when I moved back I went back to my old GP I moved out of the catchment area and I spoke to them they said it would be fine only I agreed NO HOME visits, thankfully I don't need to although in an emergency after surgery hours like everyone I can go to the walk in centre. I'm lucky my GPs are great. Most don't do that.

I'm afraid not as you will have to go to a doctor in the area with a dentist you don't have to call them out with a doctor you sometimes have to and they will not come and visit out of there area sorry .i wanted my same doctor as he knew me and i knew him but in the end i had to change its horrible now its not so personal your just in and out in seconds now .

As far as I know (from experience), this depends on the doc.
In the past some have told me they are unable to keep me as a patient, while others have been willing to keep me on

No. They insist on being in your area, partly in case of emergency house calls.
