Not being a Christian this baffles me. Many Christians, I will not say all, are such bigots. I think it's funny that Christians claimed the Hebrew Bible and then added their own bit on. But still have to refer to the Old Testament so that they can put down women and homosexuals. I thought the New Testament and that Jesus character cleansed all the sin off humanity. Why then do you hate homosexuals? Shouldn't their sins be wiped away too?

Many of them listen to bigots like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell.

Here are some quotes to remind people of why it's evil to justify morality with bronze age myths:

If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being.
-- Rev Jerry Falwell

I sincerely believe that the collective efforts of many secularists during the past generation, resulting in the expulsion from our schools and from the public square, has left us vulnerable.
-- Jerry Falwell)

AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals.
-- Jerry Falwell

The idea that religion and politics don't mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country.
-- Rev Jerry Falwell, Sermon, July 4, 1976

I think there is a misunderstanding here. Jesus didn't come to wipe away sin. He came to wipe away death, which is the result of sin.
The thing to remember is, ALL have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God...therefore, ALL have earned the death penalty. No exceptions.
Of course, God loves His creation, just as any parent would, so He couldn't just give them up to die, could He? Wouldn't any parent want to save their child from death if they could? I know I would rather die myself than bury my child, and I know what I'm talking about, because I have buried grandchildren.
If I could, I would give my son back his babies by taking their place in the grave, it hurts that badly.
God is surely a better parent than I am, you can trust me on that, I've made my mistakes as a parent.
Your issue is with homosexuality, which seems to be the hot topic of the day. As someone above me has said, we are to forgive the sin, not hate it, to hate sin, we would have to hate ourselves.
Remember the story of the woman taken in adultery. I'm pretty sure Jesus would have done exactly the same if the person dragged before Him had been a gay or a lesbian, in fact, I almost wish something like that could have been reported so that people can see just how heavy those rocks they are throwing are.
That said, it is still true that homosexuality IS a sin, and it is still true that people afflicted with homosexuality, just like any other sin, are called on to repent, which literally means to turn from their sin, or leave it behind them. Remember that Jesus also told the adulterous woman to go and sin no more, and we can be very sure He would say the same thing to the gay man or the lesbian woman. Anyone who has ever truly fought the sin in their own lives can tell you what an ordeal it can be. But we are promised all the power at God's command to help us, if we will only make the commitment to Him to sincerely work with Him.
Right now, I am watching the miracle of a woman who has left her addiction to crack at the altar at His feet. She has been "clean" now for several months, is putting on weight, and is so much happier. I have deep respect for her, and I am committed to being there for her, even if she needs me at two in the morning, since I have seen what a bitter battle she is fighting.
But she is proof. It can be done.

What makes someone a bigot? Could it be calling a group ignornant before learning the reason behind some of their beliefs. Or how about insulting them as a group.

Jesus came to take away sin but it is the individual's decision if the offer is accepted or not. Each individual is responsible for their sin and redemption. Therefore, all the sins of the world are not removed, only those who accept the offer, and your given as many chances as possible.

The New Testament is not complete without the Old. There is much to learn in both.

Women are not put down by Christians if they know anything about God. That's usually the result of an individuals misunderstanding or insecurity.

Most Christians I know don't put down homosexuals but they do express their disagreement with the lifestyle. For some that disagreement means put down but in reality it is just disagreement.

Hi! Let's look at this systematically:

"Christians claimed the Hebrew Bible"
Historically speaking, the earliest Christians were Jews and believed that in Yeshua (Jesus) they had found the messaiah prophesied by the Hebrew scriptures (the tanakh and torah).

"added their own bit"
The New Testament does not indicate that the church has replaced the Jews, rather that the gentiles have been "grafted in" to Israel/Abraham.

"so that they can put down women and homosexuals"
I'm not sure what you mean by putting down women. The New Testament unambiguously shows women in positions of honor, such as being the first to see Christ after He had risen while the men were busily abandoning their faith for unbelief. Additionally, the leadership role of men was not new to the New Testament, rather a refinement of the leadership role already expressed in the Old Testament. This was not to be some heavy-handed dictatorship, rather that husbands ought to be willing to die for their wives in the same fashion that Christ died for the church.

As for putting down homosexuals, if you know of supposed Christians who make a practice of belittling any human being made in the image of God, you ought to question their commitment to Christ. It seems more likely, though, that you object to Christians pointing out that homosexual practice and thought is sinful. This is not an unloving thing to do if scripture is accurate in its statements about the judgment of God.

True, Jesus made a way for sin to be washed away from humanity, but this only applies to those who are willing to take that "way." It's rather like saying that just because soap and water exist that no one is filthy. The truth is that soap and water only remove filth from those who use them. Homosexuals are not some kind of "ultra-sinners" somehow beyond the grace of God, but as they apply the "soap" they will be made clean. True Christians do not hate homosexuals, in fact some of them are former homosexuals! The truth is that a good number of people find that particular set of behaviors to be repulsive, and being human beings that they are, may slip into condesceding, berating or belittling them. But how does this negate the Christian message? The message is either true or false, regardless of the worthiness of the messenger. If you know that there are a large number of people who cannot successfully calculate the square root of seven without a calculator, would you then reject all of mathematics or say that the square root of seven did not exist? The truth is that following God is difficult, and people are prone to blowing it by nature.

Lastly, while the Old Testament condemns homosexuality, I do not need to refer to it in order to condemn the practice:

Romans 1:26-32
26 For this reason God R48 gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

I'm really not one for name calling or pointing the finger but, as for being an ignorant bigot, you have really proven yourself to be one. You not being a Christian should baffle you. If you were you would know exactly what the Bible says about homosexuals. And you would know Love is the greatest commandment.
If they accept Christ as there Savior and change there ways, yes they are forgiven. And you would be forgiven too if you did the same. Now as for myself, I need to go ask for forgiveness for answering your question the way I did.

Be Blessed and Rejoice in the Lord

Not one of you knows what your talking about. It is in the bible to hate the sin and not the sinner. It is implied through out the bible and old testament that we all are sinners. It is also stated that all sins are equal. If i hated homosexuals then i would hate all sinful ppl and i would even hate my self. Im a die hard christian who has many gay friends and a realy good friend who is bi. I dont agree with their lifestyle but i still care about them as ppl just as they forgive me for my problems and sins i forgive them for what they do. Its not my place to judge. Just as Jesus forgave theives and liars he also forgives homosexuals and any other sinners "equally". It is stated in the new testament that homosexuality is considerd wrong. Most true Christians dont hate gays , i ephisize "true" . Some ppl worrie about non vital things. Your sexual preference will not condem you to hell. You can repent just as you can for all sins. I am a sinner and i repent for what i do wrong and am forgiven,

The first Christians were Jews, kid.

The Christians that point to the Old Testament mentioning that "homosexual acts are an abomination" are typically the same ones that equally critical of such things as murder, rape, theft, lying, adultery, etc.

Any Christian who put down women are certainly taking things out of context to serve their own need to feel superior.

I can think of ANOTHER religion that flat out says "MEN ARE SUPERIOR TO WOMEN" and "WHEN YOUR WIFE DISOBEYS YOU, BEAT HER". I won't mention the NAME of that religion, but the inventor of that religion begins with an M. M is also the 13th letter in the alphabet. Coincidence?

Bigots will be bigots, regardless of their religion.

Praise Jesus!!!
Amen

I'm a Christian and a woman. I don't hate gays nor do I think they're an abomination. They're children of God like all of us. Why do you have such hate against Christians? Cool off a bit.

They choose the convenient path in the Bible. For example, the Old Testament, or "Hebrew Bible" as you put it, is much more harsh and "fire and brimstone" than the New Testament, about issues like homosexuality and purity.

But Jesus, in the New Testament, teaches that we should love and accept everyone for who they are. Apparently, Christians find it easier to gay-bash than to accept them as decent human beings.

1st, The Majority of Christians are not bigots. There are bigots in every faith conviction. Even those without faith.

2nd. Christians do not put down women and homosexuals.

3rd. Jesus' sacrifice only wipes away the sins of those who come under the sacrificial benefits of his death. And that is through Faith.
