When I had an operation I had "blind faith" that my surgeon knew what he was doing.

Should I also have "blind faith" in my psychiatrist?

Nope. A psychiatrist or other mental health professional should include you in the treatment of what your seeing them for.

not unless you feel good about what he or she said. i can't even tell you how many different psychiatrist or mental health people i suffer from depression since in my 20 . i am now in my 50 and there has been one DR. i would say i had "blind faith " in and he has retired. but the reason i am here today is because of this DR. but he would listen ask questions and answer my questions. i have a friend who has seen the same DR. for 30yrs she would not think of changing . i guess she has "blind faith " in him . i would have quit going to him , probley after my second appointment . any ways good luck to you . if you wish to continue this you can write me back!!

Absolutely not. Whatever is the problem, always get a second opinion. Research the problem at the library or on the web. If you are taking medication, find out what it does, exactly. What are the side-effects, can it be addictive, ect. Ask alot of questions. If your psychiatrist is a good one, he will be up front with you about the answers. But, don't take his word for it, go find out for yourself.

No, remember that they are human and can make mistakes. If you know a doctor well you can trust them. As far as I'm concerned God is the only one worthy of blind faith.
