I once considered designing a jesus slot machine. I wonder if it would be a big hit. You know....5 crosses hits the big payday.

Well - If churches condemn gambling, then their power must be pretty feeble, because the government has jumped feet first into the lotto business, yet cautions the people about not becoming addicted. That is like waving the 'carot", but slapping the hand of anyone that tries to get it.
The carrot that churches wave is Jesus, once they get you in there, they take over your life. They want you to put your faith in their establishment, using Jesus or God as the draw, that way they can tap straight in to your pocket book, and tell you what to do at the same time.

Well it's obvious, isn't it? The bible doesn't call gambling a sin but it warns of it. Most people who gamble are desperate for money and would spend their last dime in hopes of winning big. They suffer and so do their families. I don't think occasional gambling just for the fun of it is a sin. If you win big, share it with others. All should put their faith in God, not just the poor. I can't tell you how many times we didn't know where the next dollar would come from and got all frantic and scared. Through prayer and giving our worries to God, we learned to trust. Money has come in from sources we never dreamed or thought of and I have yet to say that God abandoned me and my family. Have a good day.

Because the church would want you give that money to them so rather than simply providing false hope to the impoverished, they can ensure that the impoverished have NO hope at all. After all so many churches believe that you must 'suffer for the lord' even if they have to make certain that people do.

The shiny, bearded man as you say, does need the poor to place their bets on any gambling table to enhance their hope, whereas gambling casinos, deprive the poor not only of the fleeting hope they had a moment before loosing their bets, but also of their meager savings, emptying their pockets and filling their hearts with despair.

We condemn gambling because like many other things it helps break up families and does indeed help keep the poor, poor. Too many people play the lotto for only 1 reason, because they have hope in the wrong thing; money.
We should put our faith in God because unlike the lotto (which statistically doesnt make you happy even if you do win) God will in the end make you very happy and rich.

Yeah I've never figured out why people think the odds are better forgetting basic critical thinking when it comes to religion, but realize the house always wins eventually with every gambling game ever invented.

First of all because that first part about gambling is totally true. And where did you get the idea that God is a shiny, beardy man?! You're crazy, heaven is not the clouds, duh. Get a life, religion isn't something to argue about, it something you're supposed to believe in no matter which religion you are part of.

i don't know. Why do churches condemn sex for pleasure? No idea. It's like, "oh i see john and his family having fun doing X therefore it must be a sin". If you are not stonefaced, sad and in mourning, you are not a good christian. That's the general message.
PS: I cannot speak for all christians but that's the pattern i have seen

Churches promote Bingo in their social halls but they condemn public gaming because it takes those funds that parishioners spend elsewhere away from the church collection baskets. They prefer you bank on the house that offers salvation as opposed to earthly riches.
