I've had trouble with this and want to find out if anyone else has. The Fair & Accurate Credit Transaction Act requires this. Seems like merchants not doing it are leaving us open to identify theft.

It should just be the last 4-5, but I have seen the exp date on there. I don't htink it is a rule tho - think about he carbon forms that some places still use.

It's federal law under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Businesses that use electronically printed receipts cannot print more than the last 5 digits of an account number or the expiration date.

However, this does not apply to handwritten receipts or by copy of the card.

Also, the effective date varies:

3 years after the date of enactment of this subsection, with respect to any cash register or other machine or device that electronically prints receipts for credit card or debit card transactions that is in use before January 1, 2005; and

1 year after the date of enactment of this subsection, with respect to any cash register or other machine or device that electronically prints receipts for credit card or debit card transactions that is first put into use on or after January 1, 2005.

Where have you heard that? They're supposed to only show the last 5 numbers (some only show 4), but there's nothing about expiration dates that I've seen. You should bring it up with the store manager, though.
