"look, the government is supposed to publicize a list of chemicals that are suspectd to be poisonous, but let's not put them on the list officially until we know for sure that they are harmful. otherwise, we just cause alot of trouble for those who make and use the chemical. "

"You saw what the former governor of illinois did: he declared a moratorium on executions in the state. it was a good thing, because it turns out that a large number of inmates on death row had to be turned loose because DNA evidence proved them innocent. It is about time we got serious about the fact that we ve been convicting innoncent people. "

I do think you ought to analyze these, as they are what you are going to hear on US tele as long as you live.

First pp: Is the gubmint "supposed" to put "suspected" chemicals on the list? It makes you wonder why they are trying to wriggle out of it.

Second pp: It may be my personal prejudice, but I don't detect an informal fallacy here.

Third pp: This is a question for political debate, and I'm not about to declare for either side; but questions are not fallacies, so long as the premisses are made clear. I may quarrel with the conclusion but not with the premisses if I accept the premisses as given.
