Of course its unhealthy. Do you realize how many germs are under your fingernails and all over your hands? Go stand in a restroom and watch the people who come in. Watch how many go to the bathroom and leave without washing their hands. No telling what they touched while in there or even before entering the bathroom. So, they leave by opening (touching) the doorknob. Ok it is time for you to leave and you touch that same doorknob.....GERMS. You later put your fingers in you mouth and may be digesting someone elses feces (poop) or other unmentionable body fluids. Makes me sick just thinking about it.
That should be enough to motivate you to stop chewing. And that was just one example. There are dirty shopping cart handles, remote controls, your locker at school, etc.
Hope you figure out a way to kick this nasty habit.
Good Luck!

I put on some fake nails. Then i couldn't bite them.
since I saw your other question about braces. You'll pretty much end up quitting after braces. Once I got braces I stopped because I couldn't bite them anymore. It's very difficult to bit eyour nails with braces.

if you know someone who eats their nails really badly, just go and look at the state of their fingers, ask your self if you want hands like that. then everytime you put your hands in your mouth, think before biting. I used one of the paint on products for a short time. It reminds you when you put your fingers in your mouth. And really helps to break the habit.

are you biting you nails because you're nervous or somethin, do you find yourself bored. if you're a girly girl, go get a pretty manicure that you know youu wouldn't want to mess up by biting your fingernails because you paid your money for it. you should also try to get busy doing something else and avoid sitting around alot because I guarantee you'll find yourself biting your nails again.

Looked up "Nail Biting". Hope this helps.
I personally don't think creams or bitter tasting stuff would really help. I think this is something with your nerves or stress related problem.

Hope this helps.

Try being creative to stop biting. For example, put tape around the tips of you finger. Try chewing gum instead. Just be creative. Even try just will power.

I bit mine for 42 years then found a rock in Tennesee and kept it in my hand as a reminder to stop and rubbed it like a worry rock been 2 years since I quit.
