Yes you still need Antivirus. Macs aren't immune, but there is not many viruses that exist, plus the built in firewall (System Preferences > Security) catches most of it and you would need the Admin password to load it, but better safe than sorry.

yes it is true, b/c of the core of the operating system (darwin) which is Unix based. (so even if someone DID write a virus, the most it'd do is wipe out a single users files, and not the WHOLE system). Yes...an OS that knows how to deal w/ user permissions etc..

as far as software available. there are TONS of software available.

do you have an Apple store available in your town? They are really a good information resource.

anyway as far as applications go, you have access to the entire Opensource Ports system (http://www.macports.org/), but there are a lot of "commerical" software packages available. The Adobe creative suite, Microsoft Office (although iWork and or Open Office are just as good). iTunes and Quicktime of course.

Tons of software out there...Pretty much 100% of what you used in the micro soft world is available as a straight port, or a comprable software package by some other vendor.

No, it is not true. Apple has had viruses too. Apple can make that claim because virus makers will not waste time making viruses that attack only Apple computers. Tons more people have PCs that can help the virus spread.

Also, Apple can make that claim because the computer may be immune to viruses until a person turns it on.

No! It's not immune to viruses.....just not yet! Since viruses are targetting the bigger majority users, which is Windows, but it doesn't mean Mac won't get any virus, there is, but not as much as for Windows. You'll never know when you get hit. Rather be protected than wait till it hits you.

You see, even Windows is safe when you are SMART. Yes, you can deliberately WRECK a MAC if you want. But it is better to depend on your SMARTS and avoid trouble.

If you are going to use wild surfing techniques, then get an anti-virus solution for your MAC. Of course, Safari sucks, so look for other alternatives.

Good luck and Happy Computing!
