It depends...everyone is different. For example, I have severe panic disorder and simple talk therapy wasn't doing enough to control the attacks....so I went on meds. It is a ultimately a personal decision, But definentely see a doctor and recieve an official diagnosis.

I refused medication for 10 years because I didn't believe in mind/mood altering substances.
But then I was hospitalized so I started taking medication after that.

First you need to go see your Dr. to take a blood test to find out if your skizofranic or bipolor. From there your Dr should prescribe medication.

Firstly,You've got to be diagnosed with a disorder by your doc and they try other things first.They don't automatically prescribed you medication.

If you see a licensed psychiatrist, they will be able to diagnose you and put you on medication if necessary.

I think a simple definition would be, when it is interfering with your daily life: i.e. causing conflict with others, making you behave in ways you dont want to, etc.
