This is my first year to be married. I filed may taxes as single. WIll I be penalized for this. My wife is in the process of getting immigration papers together and was issued a tax id #. We have tried to have the employer to send her W-2 form again because it was mailed to the wrong address. We were married 3/24/2006. I have already recieved my refund which was very small. Do i need to refile or is this at all possible. I just want to do the right thing.

Yes, you need to file an amended return.

Yes, you need to file an AMENDED return, form 1040X. This form can only be filed as a paper return. I am curious how your wife was able to work without already having a tax id number. Her employer can't complete a W-2 without one. Something in your situation is not quite right.

you need to file a 1040X to correct the tax return that you filed. You might find that you make out better filing jointly. And probably also a state amended return if your state has a state income tax.

report an ammended return (a 1040x) and touch your interior sight IRS workplace to establish a fee plan in case you have not have been given the $1000. interest and fines proceed to accrue till the quantity is paid off, and have faith me, you do not want to attend till your $1000 grows right into a $ten thousand bill!
